Anxiety disorder: Its all in your mind

Today, we are all facing social anxiety today – though at differing degrees. How do you feel when you’re about to give a toast? You panic, right? You’re not the only one. We all get confused in socially demanding situations. Don’t believe me? Invite your friends for dinner and you will see social anxiety doing its thing. How do we draw the line between what anxiety is “normal” and when to seek help? In fact, seeking help can be a cause of anxiety in itself – leading us into an infinite chicken and egg loop.

Are anxiety and fear distinct? Fear is a genetic response to perceived immediate danger whereas anxiety is the anticipation of a future threat. Imagine the old dark days when our ancestors lived in the savanna with predators roaming nearby. Whenever they confronted these dangerous animals, their fight and flight response would kick in, adrenaline skyrocket and they would get the superficial energy required to get to safety. And their response, to fear would end at this time.

This response to threats kept them alive back then. But nowadays, we no longer need this instinct to keep us alive. When its triggered out of context (such as in social situations) we experience anxiety. We get a strong premonition; our heart rate increases and we may sweat. It’s not a pleasant thing. Thanks to psychology, they’re “non-medication” remedies to anxiety attacks. Before we go here, you must master your thoughts first.

This is the cornerstone of anxiety management. More often than not, anxiety is tied to judgment. “What will others think of me?” You may question your actions. When practicing mindfulness, you force your mind to focus on the present situation, ignoring everything else. You stop worrying about the future and focus on the present. Here’s a quick exercise you can perform every day. Sit on the carpet, on one corner of the room. Spot an item in your vicinity. Close your eyes. Take slow deep breaths. Describe the item you were looking at. What color is it? Is it from a specific brand? Take your time coming up with a detailed description. Listen keenly. What can you hear? Imagine there’s chocolate melting in your mouth. What does it taste like? Repeat this process daily and you will start living in the present. Before you know it, your mind will be focusing on what really matters. Anxiety will be a thing of the past.

Blocking Negative thoughts
Have you ever noticed that we are very poor judges of character? Perhaps this is why we perceive situations as being more dangerous than they actually are. Through yoga and meditation, you will learn how to channel this negative energy. The first step is to identify where the negativity is coming from. It’s not as hard as it sounds. Ancients generations used cannabis Oil to calm anxiety. Perhaps we can learn a thing or two from their wisdom. There’s no silver bullet to anxiety. Eat healthily, exercise often and get adequate rest. For years now, Ojai Energetics has been shipping CBD Tincture and hemp oils that help in managing anxiety. Perhaps they’ll know what’s right for you.
